May meetup

Hi Everybody,
I'm trying something new here. I've joined a group of creative folk who meet up and work on business goals together. We challenge ourselves to new goals each month and try to get them accomplished. I have a lot to do to get bluehour studio rockin' so I am working on the things that are already in place and starting to work on my long term goals in the process.

Here are my goals for May:

  • Create a new banner for my blog. Mine is very boring and should show an obvious illustration on it.
  • Create a background for Twitter. This makes a BIG difference to each person's page, it makes an instant impression and I wanna make a really good one.
  • Business Cards...I have been holding off on this forever for some reason and need them NOW. Anybody have a really good place to get them?
  • Resume, stationary, envelopes...Almost done, need to get printed.
  • Find health insurance...I have one month left before I quit my job. Anyone California folks out there with health insurance they like?
  • A painting or drawing a week to get that portfolio filled.
  • Get my website started by learning Adobe Dreamweaver on lynda.com.
  • Stop Procrastinating! Do this one and get the rest  of the list done.
Note to all the MeetUp people: Nice to meet you all and welcome to my blog and my life...
How's that for the month for challenges? I'm pretty excited about working on getting all of this done this month. I'm happy to look at you work and get all that needed inspiration. Thanks, Everybody!

Did I miss anything?

Hi Debbie and welcome! WOW, now that's a list... I get my biz cards printed with Overnight Prints, have always been happy with their work, and they do a 24 hour turn around with the printing, and UPS the cards to you. I think they are down near San Diego. And I have Kaiser (I'm up in San Rafael!) and have been very happy with it.... Here's to getting everything done in May!

Welcome Debbie! I have worked with nextdayflyers.com recently and have been happy with them. They are super reasonable and are located in LA. Have a great May and much success with your goals :)

Hi Debbie: welcome to the meetup...I am new to the group as well and just started last month. I have used moo.com for my business cards. They are not local but do a fabulous job and are very creative. I am up in Reno and come to San Francisco all the time..great goals and you've joined a great, supportive group to help you with your business....

Hi Debbie! I'm glad you've joined The Meetup. You didn't miss anything :) I always think of my monthly goals like an independent study class - you accomplish what you can in 30 days and work on what seems to be the thing that needs doing.

Good luck with your list. It looks like you're entering a very exciting time for your business!

Welcome Welcome! Great list, can't wait to see what you come up with for your banner and cards :) Good luck on your goals.

I love MOO.com cards, myself :)

Welcome Debbie! You have a huge list - woohoo! I've used vistaprint (cheap, but soo many hoops to get through to the end of the order) their quality is fine. I have the exact same card design printed by PSPrint and Uprinting - the quality on both are top notch, but the lines are a wee bit more defined on the Uprint cards, so I'll be ordering more from them...with all these places you get on their mailing list and you'll get emails about promotions etc (with Vistaprint these are endless, so caveat emtor!)

Good luck on that huge list!

Hi Debbie! Welcome to the Meetup. You will meet a wonderful and inspirational bunch of creatives here. You have an ambitious list. I love that you included education, blog touch ups and human resource issues. I find my most successful months have a tasks from creative, educational and business (boring) needs. Wishing you a productive May!

Hi,

Very ambitious. I really like the bold color of your blog. Really makes an impact. I get my business cards from vistaprint.com--fast, cheap and easy. Let me know if you find a better place.

Hey Debbie, it is inspiring to see you get moving on your design business! I have had a few different cards printed through Vista print and been happy with the quality and turnaround time. Check you moo.com also because I read you can use multiple designs in a single order which seems really cool for showing off your work. Good luck with the work!

Welcome Debbie! You have a great list of things to accomplish this month. As a designer I too know the challenges of balancing your business sense and creativity. Best of luck with everything in May. Here are two more options for business cards: the greenerprinter.com has always done a great job for my clients, and I offer letterpress printing if you are interested.

Hi Debbie-- welcome to the meetup! Its been really helpful for me. And a fellow illustrator!! So nice!
I'm apart of Freelancers Union and get my insurance through them. Its not the best, but its quite affordable. Might be worth looking into.
For printing I've used GotPrint.net and OvernightPrints and really liked them both. Moo cards (local to me over on the other coast,) are also great, but a bit pricier unless you need different images on your cards.
