It's coming

Pierpoint Pond sunrise, Dudley, Massachusetts

I'm pretty excited and scared about what will happen in the next few weeks. Hopefully I will be up for the challenge...I must remember to keep myself cool, calm and collected. Meditation will help, yoga will help, laughing will help and not taking myself too seriously will help too. Well I suppose there must be a lesson in this all somewhere...

"If we go down into ourselves,
we find that we possess exactly
what we desire."
 Simone Weil

So here's too getting down and dirty and finding the deepest part of ourselves.

I did it!

I gave my two weeks notice yesterday at the museum. I quit! This is really happening...let's celebrate. I bet you can't not dance to this song.

You gotta love the Gypsy Punk.

This is what makes me tick...Lewis Carroll

Did you ever just connect with a time period?

I swear I was born 100 years too late. I love the Victorian era and adore early photography. One of my favorite photographers is Charles Dodgson aka Lewis Carroll.  Of course, I love  "Alice Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass" but most of all, I love the photo's he took.
There is so much sadness in all of them. In our culture, we get so used to seeing children with happy faces all the time it seems so strange to see them with such infinite sadness in their faces. There is something very real about these kids and so beautiful. They haunt me.

so wonderfully creepy...

sweet dreams are made of these...

Of course, the REAL Alice...
No one gets that horsie...

Striped socks and dead plant...

There is a story in each of these pics...maybe I'll write and illustrate one.

ready or not...

I'm so excited to leaving my job. Crazy huh? I think I will be giving my notice tomorrow and I couldn't be happier. I am so ready for a change. So I am surrounding myself with people who are also on the same journey as I am and going for it. I joined a class for specially designed for illustrators called Flourish which starts in a couple weeks and I'm psyched! I love working with all types of creative folks but one focused just on illustration is perfect.

 yay! Can't wait!

relaxed a bit...now what?

I had a wonderful weekend at the Boonville Beerfest and camping with friends. This is a bit of our morning walk before the fest began. So many different paths to walk down...lovely each way.

Oh yeah...Didn't I make a list last week? I don't believe it is already the 10th, crazy.  So much to do. Today I am working on a couple of things, the new header for the blog and I need to work on my new piece for Glob paints. One thing I need to do is actually put more illustration on this site. (How crazy would that be for an illustrator?) More to come soon, I promise.

Another note, I wanted to thank all the support I have gotten by joining the Meetup group. I'm really excited about all of this and nice meeting you all.

May meetup

Hi Everybody,
I'm trying something new here. I've joined a group of creative folk who meet up and work on business goals together. We challenge ourselves to new goals each month and try to get them accomplished. I have a lot to do to get bluehour studio rockin' so I am working on the things that are already in place and starting to work on my long term goals in the process.

Here are my goals for May:

  • Create a new banner for my blog. Mine is very boring and should show an obvious illustration on it.
  • Create a background for Twitter. This makes a BIG difference to each person's page, it makes an instant impression and I wanna make a really good one.
  • Business Cards...I have been holding off on this forever for some reason and need them NOW. Anybody have a really good place to get them?
  • Resume, stationary, envelopes...Almost done, need to get printed.
  • Find health insurance...I have one month left before I quit my job. Anyone California folks out there with health insurance they like?
  • A painting or drawing a week to get that portfolio filled.
  • Get my website started by learning Adobe Dreamweaver on lynda.com.
  • Stop Procrastinating! Do this one and get the rest  of the list done.
Note to all the MeetUp people: Nice to meet you all and welcome to my blog and my life...
How's that for the month for challenges? I'm pretty excited about working on getting all of this done this month. I'm happy to look at you work and get all that needed inspiration. Thanks, Everybody!

Did I miss anything?
